The second alpha version is now available!

    New in this version:

    • The settings page is up and running.
      • Moderation options for a submitted article.
      • Send a notification email when an article is posted (NYI).
      • Allow/disallow anonymous posting.
      • Modify the base slugs.
      • Enable/disable Akismet on community news articles.
    • Simple post ratings are now implemented.
    • Akismet integration (the official akismet plugin is required).
    • An optional ‘View All’ link is added to the view posts widget.
    • Compatibility with WordPress 3.2.
    • Anonymous tags are fixed.
    • Updating a post will no longer reset the author data to the user who updated the post.
    • Improved theme compatibility (still needs some work).
    • More (minor) improvements and bug fixes.

    Known issues:

    • There appears to be an issue where viewing a single post results in a 404 page.
    • The notification emails are not yet implemented.

For more information, view the Alpha Preview 1 thread.

A newer version is available: FV Community News 3.0 Alpha 3.

I just installed v 2.0.3 (the latest on WordPress.org) on my site, where I also use the plugin Dynamic Widgets.

Dynamic Widgets works fine with all the plugins I’m using on the site except one — FV Community News, which gives me this message: “widgetID is not valid”.

This is what the author of Dynamic Widgets has said on this issue: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/plugin-dynamic-widgets-widgetid-is-not-valid

Dropping a message here to check whether this planned update will address this know issue.

In version 2.0.3, the plugin is not using a deprecated method of registering the widgets. So what the author says in the topic you linked, is not the case here. In fact, it uses the same method of registering widgets as other, supported, plugins do.

The only advice I can give you is to contact the author of Dynamic Widgets, and ask him about it. Like I said, the plugin is using the correct way to register widgets, and the new version will use that same method since there is no other way to do it.

When is the beta version and final release expected?

I can’t give you a date, but it is still in progress.

Currently work is done to get the server ready for some cloud features that will be implemented (more details on that will follow). After that there will probably be one more alpha, then a beta and depending on how things will go with that either one more final beta, or a release.
That is basically the plan, keep in mind that this might change though.

Development is going a little bit slower then planned, but it is still going on!

Advanced filters have been added, which allows custom form validation. This means that it will be possible to require a minimum message length for example.
Also a base slug has been added, which should fix the problems in the previous alphas that posts are not accessible.

Various other bug fixes and improvements have occurred.

I can’t give you a date when the next version will be released, but I think the last alpha will be pushed soon.
